George and the Dragon Even a little guy like George can rescue the Princess and slay the Dragon if he learns to Dream Big! The hand-puppet adventure, GEORGE AND THE DRAGON, is performed in a walking bag stage. While the action is taking place on the puppet stage, puppeteer Peter Allen’s legs and feet are visible as the entire stage walks and moves around the performance area. Fast-paced action and lots of audience participation keep this lively show moving right along. Our hero, George, discovers that a dragon is destroying the Kingdom, and it wants to eat the Princess for dinner! It is up to George (with the audience’s help) to rescue the Princess and slay the Dragon. George’s quest takes him to the farmlands, the King’s palace, into the Wizard’s cave and even outside the Dragon’s lair. All of these locations are hand-painted onto scenery, which dramatically unrolls as the story unfolds. This popular show has delighted audiences at outdoor fairs, theaters, puppet festivals, schools and libraries in Hawaii, Arizona,Washington, Pennsylvania, California, Kansas, Iowa and Missouri. Reviewers enjoyed the “...beautifully constructed puppets... spectacular Dragon... live voices and music” and “audience participation”. This entertaining show is designed for family groups because the “dragon scenes” can be a little intense for toddlers. Puppeteer: Peter Allen Show length: 45 minutes Maximum audience size: 250 Performance/Demonstration/Workshop Dream Big - Be a Puppeteer! The “night time” theme of the 2012 summer reading program just cries out for slightly mysterious style of shadow puppetry. The shadow puppets are never actually seen by the audience, all that is seen is the shadows cast upon the stage screen. Several librarians have requested shadow puppetry, so here it is! This new performance workshop begins with a short shadow puppet performance. The puppeteer then turns the stage around and demonstrates how the shadows are projected onto the screen and how the puppets are made. Audience participants are then invited to use the shadow puppets to enter into the performance, or to make shadow puppets of their own. Puppeteers Peter Allen and Debbie Lutzky Allen are both experienced puppeteers and teachers. They are willing to tailor this unique performance workshop to the librarian’s theme. In years past, Parasol Puppets has specialized in programming for the smaller libraries. This program works beautifully for family audiences of less than 100 people. In order for the shadow puppets to be seen, this program does require a darkened space. Tables will also be needed for a work space so that the audience can make the puppets. A list of possible workshop supplies will be sent to the library when the show is booked. This will be a creative and stimulating event for your library!
