Parasol Puppets
presents
The GingerBread Man on Old MacDonald's Farm
old macdonald and fox

Old MacDonald has a most unusual farm.  Parasol Puppets presents colorful hand puppets in this musical version
of everyone’s favorite song story.  On this farm are chickens and ducks and cows and ... oh, no, a very hungry fox!
The story gets even more exciting when the Gingerbread Man races through this pastoral scene.  Can anyone catch him?
Audiences enjoy singing along with ukulele and hammered dulcimer music as these two familiar characters collide into an
original adventure.  Songs include OLD MACDONALD HAD A FARM, I HAD A LITTLE ROOSTER,
SIX LITTLE DUCKS and INCH BY INCH.

  Show length: 45 minutes*
Suggested age level: Families with children 5 years of age and up
 Maximum audience size: 250

*If you would like a longer program, we would be happy to add a 15-minute “Show and Tell” and/or “How we make a Puppet”
at the end of the puppet show. Please let us know before the performance date if you would like this option.

This is our latest show, built for the 2011 Library Summer Reading Program. We thought you might like to see how we build our puppets.

patterns

We designed this show to have a "traditional" look
to it.
The handpuppets will have sewn fabric heads that will later be painted.
Here, Peter has made patterns for the heads and hands of some of the puppets.  He has traced them onto cotton fabric.
hands

Peter cut, sewed and turned all of these hands for the puppets.  This used to be Debbie's job, but after 20 years she can't stand to do another hand!

stuffed heads and hands

Now it's getting interesting.  The fabric heads are stuffed with fiberfill, neck tubes inserted and ears sewn on.

painted fox The fox head and hands have been painted. Peter has been experimenting with a new kind of finish that gives a shine to some of the puppets.  He won't use it on all the characters, just a few that he wants to emphasize.  He's posed the head on the fabric that he's thinking of using for the costume of the fox puppet.

painted heads Here are some of the heads, the same ones as in the above photo, after they've been painted.  What a difference a little paint can make!
